I blog a lot about freelancing (obviously). A reader recently asked me where they should even get started on finding editors who are open to getting pitches from freelancers. There are several ways to find editors who need pitches, I wrote posts about them with some details and advice on how to get started.
Use Twitter (commiserate with other writers and also try to search for editors’ emails.)
Join a network like Study Hall (they spill all the tea on the dumpster fire that currently is the media industry.)
Attend events/networking (aka amazing ideas won’t always come to you if all you do is stay indoors and stare at your laptop.) Ironically, it was actually networking that lead to my New York Times byline.
Here are a few calls for pitches I saw online to help you guys along.
Men's Health magazine wants feature pitches. You should email ben.paynter@hearst.com
Parents.com seeks personal essay, big trend, and more pitches. You should email Anna.Halkidis@meredith.com

And since it’s Thanksgiving week, I figured I should say that I’m grateful for anyone who reads this newsletter, even if it’s just one person.
I’m grateful that there are other writers out there who are unionizing and speaking up about how we can make this industry better so that more voices can be heard.
And I’m grateful to just have a job when so many people don’t.
Here’s to making the holiday season and eventually the new year a good one.
